Understanding the Difference Between a Requester and a Provider

Understanding the Difference Between a Requester and a Provider

In Veriport’s Network feature, two primary roles interact to facilitate drug and alcohol testing services: the Requester and the Provider. Understanding the responsibilities and capabilities of each role is essential for navigating the Network effectively.

Requester (TPA)

A Requester is typically a Third-Party Administrator (TPA) or other entity that initiates a testing event. Requesters use the Network to find and connect with collection sites that can perform drug and alcohol tests on their behalf.

  • Initiate test orders through the Veriport platform.
  • Select in-network or out-of-network providers to conduct collections.
  • Supply lab and Medical Review Officer (MRO) accounts and test supplies for in-network tests.
  • Receive final results when the collection is complete and processed.

Provider (CSP)

A Provider is a Collection Service Provider (CSP) that offers drug and alcohol testing services at a physical collection site. Providers fulfill test requests made by Requesters.

  • Accept and perform test collections requested through the Network.
  • Use the Requester’s lab, MRO, and supplies for in-network tests.
  • Use their own lab, MRO, and supplies for out-of-network tests.
  • Upload paperwork and manage compliance with DOT or non-DOT procedures.

Key Difference Between the Two: Who Owns the Testing Chain

Test Supplies Supplied by Requester Supplied by Provider
Result Delivery Routed directly to Requester Delivered via Veriport after MRO review
Pricing Typically pre-agreed rates May include additional fees
