Quest QPassport Information

Quest QPassport Information

The Quest QPassport is a digital or printable electronic requisition tool used primarily in employer-sponsored drug testing programs through Quest Diagnostics' Employer Solutions Portal (ESP). It streamlines the process for ordering, collecting, and tracking lab-based drug tests (such as urine drug screens for pre-employment, random, post-accident, or DOT-regulated testing) by providing a barcode-based "passport" that donors present at collection sites.

This system is especially useful for employers, TPAs (Third-Party Administrators), and organizations that place bulk or individual drug test orders via Quest's ESP platform. It eliminates the need for physical paper forms in many cases and ensures accurate, chain-of-custody-compliant collections at Quest Patient Service Centers (PSCs) or authorized sites.

Key Purpose of QPassport

The QPassport acts as a secure, scannable identifier for a specific drug test order. Once an employer or TPA places an order in the ESP system, a unique QPassport is generated with a barcode. The donor (employee or applicant) uses this to complete their specimen collection without needing additional paperwork from the ordering party.

This is particularly common in workplace drug screening programs, where tests are ordered electronically and results are reported back through the same portal.

Step-by-Step: How QPassport Works

  1. QPassport Generation
    • Upon submission, Quest generates the QPassport instantly.
    • It appears as a digital document (PDF) with:
      • A unique QPassport ID number.
      • A scannable barcode in the upper right corner.
      • Donor details, test ordered, collection instructions, and site info (if pre-selected).
        • Please note that the Donor ID on the QPassport will be randomized for privacy reasosns.
    • You can print it, save it, or email it directly to the donor from the Lab Orders table.
  2. Donor Receives and Uses the QPassport
    • The donor receives the QPassport (via email, print, or mobile display).
    • They go to a Quest collection site (PSC or authorized partner location).
    • At the site:
      • Present government-issued ID (driver's license, passport, military ID).
      • Show the QPassport on their phone or as a printed copy.
      • The collector scans the barcode to pull up the exact order details—no manual entry needed.
    • The collector verifies identity, performs the collection (e.g., urine sample under observed protocols if required for regulated tests), and applies chain-of-custody seals.
    • The specimen is shipped to a Quest lab for analysis.
  3. Time Limits and Validity
    • The QPassport is typically valid for a short window (e.g., 48 hours in some programs) to complete the collection—check your specific order or employer guidelines.
    • If the link/ID is inactive in ESP (e.g., specimen already collected), it indicates the process has moved forward.
  4. Results and Tracking
    • Results will be sent to your Veriport MRO and the report will be available as soon as the review is completed.

Benefits for Quest-Specific Tests

  • Speed and Accuracy: Barcode scanning reduces errors from manual data entry.
  • Convenience: Donors can use their phone—no need to carry physical forms.
  • Compliance: Supports DOT-regulated and non-regulated urine drug tests with built-in chain-of-custody.
  • Nationwide Reach: Works at thousands of Quest locations.
  • Integration: Ties into ESP for ordering, tracking, and results—ideal for high-volume programs.
